Spurred on by the unexpected success of his First Symphony in 1841, Schumann quickly composed another symphony – later counted as his Fourth Symphony – which initially confused much of the audience. The thorough revision Bart Van Reyn is conducting today was more successful. Equally symphonic is Brahms’s Piano Concerto no. 1, an epic challenge for Lucas Blondeel, who will also be giving us a small after-party in the Chamber Music Hall with regular Anima collaborator Marianne Beate Kielland.
