General Music Director Kirill Petrenko opens this year’s festival summer on 05 July with the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff. Again, we begin with a prologue to the Munich Opera Festival: Among other performances, the opera Castor et Pollux celebrates its premiere already before the official festival beginning at Prinzregententheater. The festival workshop at Reithalle will also feature the musical theatre Das Wundertheater based on works by Hans Werner Henze, followed by the world premiere of Game Show and the opera The Knot Garden. The Bayerische Staatsballett will perform Ratmansky / Dawson / Eyal, Roland Petit’s Coppélia and À Jour – contemporary choreographies. In addition, our new edition of Opera for all awaits you with a special highlight: This year we will broadcast the opera Die Tote Stadt live and free of charge to Max-Joseph-Platz.
