The yearly returning Hortus Festival takes place of the 4 marvellous botanical gardens of The Netherlands, Leiden, Utrecht, Amsterdam and Haren. The WTC lunch concert on Aug 25th is a ‘sneak preview’ of the closing/final Hortus concerts performed by the Hortus Ensemble.
This romantic program will be performed on historical instrumentarium 1880-1900, featuring a trio movement from Schumann and a magnificent piece by Chausson: Concert for Violin, Piano and String Quartet, the only work for this combination with wonderful melodic and harmonic abiities. It was dedicated to Chausson’s friend, the brilliant Belgian violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe who premiered it in Brussels in 1892.
Eva Stegeman, Heleen Hulst and Josje ter Haar – Violin
Örzse Adam – Viola
Job ter Haar – Violoncello
Maarten van Veen – Piano (artistic leader Hortus Festival)
